All medical information remains confidential and will only be passed on to others with your permission.  Once registered you can also see any of our practicioners on an ad hoc basis for consultations or for an annual medical screening where time will be taken to go through your family medical history and your personal medical history. In addition, a medical examination will be carried comprising an ECG and a full blood screening programme which includes cancer tumour markers and hormone levels including thyroid.  A follow-up consultation will then be aranged to discuss the results and provide expert advice regarding lifestyle, nutrition and exercise. Professor Peter R. Mills

Professor Peter R Mills provides The Medical Suite with specialist medical advice and care and is a consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at Gartnavel General Hospital and the Western Infirmary in Glasgow and Honorary Professor in Medicine at the University of Glasgow. He consults privately at the Glasgow Nuffield Hospital. He is President of the Scottish Society of Gastroenterology and Chairman of the UK Specialty Certificate Examination Board in Gastroenterology. He has particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease and liver disorders and has published widely in these topics. He also undertakes the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy for investigation and treatment of gastrointestinal complaints.

General Medicine

Dr. Stephen J Gallacher MD; FRCP (Edin. & Glasg.)

Specialties: General Medicine, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Metabolic Bone Disease & Osteoporosis

Professional Information: Dr. Gallacher provides specialist clinical services in the management of diabetes mellitus. He also specialises in the investigation and management of endocrine diseases – including conditions affecting the thyroid, adrenal, pituitary and reproductive systems.

Dr. Gallacher has a specialist sub-interest in the investigation and management of metabolic bone disease including osteoporosis. Dr. Gallacher has published in excess of 50 peer reviewed research papers in this field.


We will work with you to reduce your risk of developing heart disease by supporting you in your goals for improved cholesterol, blood pressure, target weight and smoking cessation. However, should you develop symptoms of heart disease our network of Consultant Cardiologists is available both locally and in Harley Street. General Surgery

Mr. Douglas T. Hansell MD(Hons), FRCS

Main Interests – Breast and Gallstone Disease

Douglas Hansell qualified MB, ChB from Glasgow University in 1977. In 1986 he was awarded the degree of MD with Honours from Glasgow University.

In 1990 he was awarded a Travelling Fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow which was undertaken in the USA at the Mayo Clinic, the Massachusetts General, New York University Medical Center and Duke University.

Breast Disease

Since 1992 he has been a Consultant Surgeon with a special interest in Breast Disease, setting up the first “one stop” breast clinic in Stobhill Hospital and then in Ross Hall Hospital. He also founded the first Breast Family History Clinic in the West of Scotland shortly thereafter.

Since the 1970s he has been actively involved in clinical and laboratory research, and has published widely in the international medical literature. He has given numerous invited lectures and presentations worldwide.

In 1996 he was the recipient of a Local Health Council Award for breast services in Glasgow.
Douglas Hansell is a Fellow of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, and a Member of the Association of Breast Surgery at BASO.

He is the Lead Consultant for Breast Services for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and within Ross Hall Hospital is the Lead Clinician for Breast Services, and Chair of the Breast Multidisciplinary Team.

Douglas is also the Lead Consultant of the Glasgow Breast Care Clinic at Ross Hall Hospital, and Lead Consultant of Breast Services at Glasgow Nuffield Hospital.

Gallstone Disease

Throughout his surgical career Douglas has also had a major interest in gallstone disease, being one of the first surgeons in the West of Scotland to develop an interest in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (keyhole surgery for the removal of the gallbladder).

In relation to this he has a major interest in ERCP (for removal of gallstones in the bile duct, and other bile/pancreatic duct problems).

He has various international publications in this field, and has given numerous presentations and invited lectures.

Mr Robert Stuart

Orthopaedics and Trauma Consultant

Mr Mark Broadbent

A Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultant with a special interest in Hand and Upper Limb Surgery Mr Broadbent practises at Ross Hall Hospital, the Glasgow Nuffield, Kings Park Hospital Stirling and Inverclyde Royal Hospital Greenock.

Mr Broadbent underwent orthopaedic training in Edinburgh and Aberdeen and fellowship training in Oxford and Wrightington. He has been on the specialist register and working as a consultant since 2009. In 2010 Mr Broadbent completed the Diploma in Hand Surgery (BSSH). He has particular interests in trauma, sports injuries and arthritis.

Mr Mark Gaston

Mr Mark Gaston is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon. Mark is based in Edinburgh and has practicing privileges at NHS Lothian and Spire Edinburgh Hospitals. He also consults here at the Medical Suite in Glasgow. He has specialist expertise in children’s orthopaedics and trauma (fractures) and the orthopaedic treatment of neuromuscular disease in all ages.

Mr Gaston’s interests include:

Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist

Dr. Mathis Heydtmann

Dr Mathis Heydtmann is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the Royal Alexandria Hospital Paisley, Inverclyde Royal Infirmary and BMI Ross Hall Hospital. Mathis has a long standing interest in all aspects of liver disease and is keen to improve the epidemiology of severe liver disease in Scotland.

He has worked in Switzerland, Manchester and Birmingham and undertook a research attachment in Boston before coming to Glasgow. He obtained an MD in genetics from Düsseldorf University. In Birmingham Mathis worked in the Liver Transplant Unit, obtained his PhD in Hepatitis C immunology and worked as a Clinical Lecturer at Birmingham University.

Mathis specialises in the assessment and medical management of gastrointestinal problems, in particular liver disease. He feels that it is important to have sufficient time to listen to the patients concerns and to make a correct diagnosis.

Mathis maintains a keen interest in academic medicine by advancing medical knowledge in his field and teaching. Research work includes epidemiology and health economics of chronic liver disease in the West of Scotland as well as treatment of liver disease in particular alcoholic liver disease.

Dr. Alex Yellowlees and The Priory Hospital Glasgow

Dr. Alex Yellowlees, Consultant Psychiatrist, is the Medical Director of The Priory Hospital in Glasgow .

Dr. Yellowlees specialises in the treatment of depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, eating disorders and other emotional and relationship difficulties with appointments available at the Medical Suite.

For more intensive psychiatric therapy, The Priory Hospital, Glasgow specialises in the management and treatment of mental health issues. The Priory has a 42-bed inpatient facility with further capacity for day care and outpatient services and is well equipped to deal with a wide range of mental health and psychiatric patient needs including addictions, eating disorders, depression, anxiety and self-confidence issues.


Mr Andrew James

Mr James was educated at Glasgow University Medical School graduating in 1989 and is Fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

He was first appointed as Consultant Urologist at Hairmyres Hospital East Kilbride in 1999. In 2004 he moved his NHS practice to Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow. He is currently holds the position of Clinical Lead in Urology for Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Mr James currently consults and operates privately at the Glasgow Nuffield Hospital and also has admission and operating privileges for BMI Glasgow Ross Hall Hospital

Khaver Qureshi B.Sc.(hons), MD, FRCS (Urol)

Mr. Khaver Qureshi is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at Gartnavel General Hospital and the Western Infirmary. He was educated in London and graduated from Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, London.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and previously Clinical Lead for the West of Scotland Urological Cancer Managed Clinical Network and has published widely on prostate and bladder cancer. He is currently the Clinical Director of Urology for Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Since his appointment Mr. Qureshi has mentored and trained several colleagues in laparoscopic techniques. His main sub-specialist interest is in urological cancer and the treatment of male and female lower urinary tract symptoms. He has seven years of experience in microsurgical reversal of vasectomy and consults at Ross Hall and the Glasgow Nuffield Hospitals.
